Sol is a PhD student in the Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Genetics (MCDB&G) program and an MS student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) program. Prior to graduate school, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Reed College, where she completed an undergraduate thesis on the effect of cannabidiol on gene expression in enterohemorrhagic E. coli on which she was co-advised by Dr. Jay Mellies and Dr. Anna Ritz. After college, she worked as a research assistant at Oregon Health & Science University in the lab of Dr. Jacob Estes, studying HIV. Currently, she is a member of Dr. Arslan Zaidi’s lab, where she studies the phenotypic impact of genetic variation underlying mitochondrial function. Specifically, she is currently investigating mitochondrial DNA variation and its effects on health-related traits in South Asians.
