Aji Opakunle

Graduate student in Molecular Pharmacology & Therapeutics (MPaT), in the lab of Dr. R. Stephanie Huang.

Aji is a graduate student in the Molecular Pharmacology & Therapeutics (MPaT) program. Prior to graduate school, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Saint Olaf College. Aji works in the lab of R. Stephanie Huang, where his research focuses on Multiple Myeloma (MM), a blood cancer with notable differences in incidence and mortality rates between sexes, disproportionately affecting men. Aji utilizes data from the MMRF CoMMpass Study and various genomic sources to conduct sex-stratified genome-wide association studies and somatic mutation analyses, aiming to uncover sex-specific genetic factors in MM patients. Through exploring differential gene expression within MM tumors and employing machine learning techniques to predict drug susceptibility, Aji's work seeks to develop personalized treatment strategies, improve patient outcomes, and address the disparities in incidence and mortality rates between sexes. Outside of his research, Aji enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and volleyball and making makgeolli in his free time.
